DC fans are just two months away from James Gunn‘s Superman flying into theaters worldwide. The first major leap for the new DCU has been pulling out all the stops with new trailers, behind-the-scenes spots, and images. The marketing push has also included a Fortress of Solitude full of merchandise. McFarlane Toys and Funko have been leading the heroic battle on that front. Now Funko has taken to the skies again with new exclusive Pops.
The two latest Pops in Funko’s ever-expanding Superman collection are Christopher Reeve’s Man of Steel from 1978’s Superman: The Movie changing in a phone booth and the iconic Target store mascot Bullseye dressed up as DC’s first superhero. The costume Bullseye is wearing is modeled after David Corenswet’s red-and-blue tights from the upcoming film. You can tell from the Kingdom Come-inspired Superman “S” emblem. These will both be Target exclusives. Reeve’s Superman will be a Deluxe Pop at $34.99 USD while Bullseye will be $14.99. Each figure is packed with a ton of detail, like Bullseye is flying with their reusable red Target bag and Reeve’s Man of Steel is still wearing his glasses. He’s also holding his jacket with his briefcase and hat on the floor. This Pop now joins Funko’s Superman: The Movie collection which was released earlier this year.
While the specific plot of Gunn’s Superman is still being held tight in the DC vault, we do know that this film won’t be another origin story for Clark Kent. This is a world where superheroes and a version of the Justice League already exist. Other than Superman, heroes like Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi), Guy Gardner’s Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion), and Supergirl (Milly Alcock) will be making their debut in the new DCU’s first film.
This will be a shared universe that’ll soon be home to big-screen adventures like Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, The Brave and the Bold (Batman), and Clayface. Peacemaker Season 2 has also been absorbed into this updated continuity. Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo), who already had a major role in Creature Commandos, will be reappearing in Superman and Peacemaker as well. However, the main villains of Superman will be Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) and The Engineer (Maria Gabriela de Faría). This action-packed fight will have a heavy romance element as well since this story seems to focus on Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) and Superman’s complex relationship.
